Some interesting articles from the NSA website about clinical trials and an electronic device that reportedly cures your stammer.

I was sent a link recently to two interesting articles on the NSA website.

Firstly the NSA responded to the program "Three Wishes" regarding a recent show about stammering. The website reads:

NBC's "Three Wishes" show Oct. 21 had a dramatic scene in which a college student is fitted for an auditory-feedback device -- and his stutter disappears completely! Is this reality, or just great television?

It may seem a little far-fetched but I think there could be some truth in it. From discussions with Speech and Language Therapists such devices have existed for other areas of speech therapy, such as voiceboxes. So a device that cures your stammer...maybe it's not too far-fetched. Anyway for the full article click here. Further there is another article that discusses auditory feedback devices if you're interested.

Lastly there is a clinical trial in America to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of pagoclone, an investigational medication for the treatment of Persistent Developmental Stuttering. From what I have read and my own experience the level of fluency can decrease during periods of anxiety. The description of the study reads:

Initial testing of pagoclone consisted of several clinical trials to evaluate its ability to help individuals who suffer from anxiety and panic disorders. A small number of these adults who also stutter participated in the studies. The EXPRESS study will continue the necessary testing to determine whether pagoclone is effective and safe in a larger group of adults who stutter.

The full article is here. and we are insterested to know if anxiety makes your stammer worse?
