My experience of working with the BSA.
My experience of volunteering to work with the BSA Scotland. BSA Scotland welcomes user involvement in many shapes and forms as you will find out here. “I passionately believe in the work being undertaken by the British Stammering Association and in particular its Scottish branch. However, I have not often found the time I would like to contribute in the past. It was a mixed blessing, therefore, when I was recently made redundant as this enabled me to assist BSA Scotland in a meaningful way. Using my project management skills, I have been looking at the structure and framework of the Scottish branch with a view to developing best practice and a comprehensive ‘Bible’ to hold the organisation in good stead for the future. So far this has involved looking at systems, procedures, policies and practices that could be of value to BSA Scotland. I have researched how similar organisations operate and have drawn on support and advice from the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, all of which have been very helpful and cooperative. The fact that I openly stammered on the phone whilst asking for their help only enhanced my credentials and assisted, rather than hindered, my research. I hope that the ‘Bible’ will be completed in time for final sign-off by the newly elected BSA Scotland Committee in February 2006. For my part, I am pleased to be adding value to BSA Scotland and having the opportunity to ‘keep my hand in’ until I secure another job.” |
